Making Shopping More Inclusive: Introducing Our New Sensory Support Boxes
Published on 7th Apr, 2026

At Morrisons, we believe that everyone should feel welcome and comfortable while walking our aisles. However, we know that for many of our neurodivergent customers, the weekly shop can sometimes feel like a sensory minefield. Between the bright lights, the hum of the fridges, and the bustle of a busy store, it can be an overwhelming experience.
That’s why, to mark World Autism Acceptance Month, we are thrilled to announce a new initiative in partnership with the National Autistic Society: the rollout of Sensory Support Boxes across all our UK supermarkets.
What’s inside the box?
We’ve worked closely with experts and the autistic community to ensure these boxes contain items that truly make a difference. Designed to help manage anxiety and improve focus, each box includes:
Fidget balls and spinners to help relieve stress.
Drawing boards for a calming, creative outlet.
Squish mats to encourage a sense of calm and tactile grounding.
How to find one
By the end of May, these boxes will be available in all 500 of our Morrisons supermarkets.
Accessing them is simple: just head to the Customer Service Kiosk at the start of your shop and speak to one of our colleagues. They’ll be happy to provide a box to help make your time in-store more positive and relaxed.
Why this matters
With over 700,000 autistic adults and children in the UK, making public spaces accessible is more than just nice to do; it’s a priority.
"It’s a priority for us to ensure all Morrisons customers feel welcomed and understood,"
"We’re proud to be leading the way in creating a more inclusive shopping environment for autistic people, their families, and all neurodivergent people across the UK." - Joseph Clark-Bland, our Community Manager.
Peter Watt from the National Autistic Society agrees, noting that while supermarkets are a key part of life, they can often be "loud, bright, and crowded," which is particularly challenging for those with sensory sensitivities.
A journey toward inclusion
The Sensory Support Boxes are the latest step in our ongoing commitment to our neurodivergent community. Many of you may already be familiar with our Quieter Hour, which we launched back in 2018.
About the Morrisons Foundation
This initiative was made possible by the Morrisons Foundation. Since 2015, the Foundation has donated over £42 million to charities across England, Scotland, and Wales, focusing on projects that truly improve people’s lives.
